This project was created as part of the Knowledge Exchange brief with the V&A’s Women Printmakers 1900s - Now Collection.
We investigated how traditional print methods and material properties could be recontextualised or hybridised using contemporary graphic design tools - in my project, through Risography.

Print Gocco is a self-contained household screen printer invented by Riso Kagaku Corporation in 1977. It was once central to the Japanese self-publishing community, but has gradually disappeared from contemporary design culture. This project explores how its physical qualities could be understood by a new generation through publication and interaction.

A life-sized paper model mimics the anatomy of Print Gocco, and the B6-sized booklet accompanies the model, explaining the printer’s history and its significance for Japanese self-publishing culture.

The life-size paper model explains the anatomy of this printer, allowing the audience to interact with its mechanism. What attracted diverse people to this printer at that time was the interactiveness - I wanted to incorporate that factor into this exploration.
